The dirty secrets about owning a white fireplace

THE SECRET IS OUT!

The classic Pinterest hearth aesthetic... White brick refractories... The secret is coming out about why homeowners should stay away from this trending beauty.

Is soot bad?

A white fireplace is going to show the imperfections way more than a traditional black, or traditional dark brick would have. soot from the fire will accumulate over time making the beauty of the clean white trend diminish to the 'constant cleaning' trend of your fireplace. soot will produce no matter if you have a gas or a wood fireplace.

Your fireplace shouldn’t have a large amount of soot or creosote built up. Creosote is a hard, tar-like substance created when soot combines with moisture or when wood smoke condenses and cools. The buildup of these substances indicates a problem with your firebox, burner, chimney, or ventilation that should be promptly addressed.

GAS FIREPLACES CAN ALSO PRODUCE SOOT!

What about birch log set?

Our hand painted birch log sets are one of our favorite sets that you can put inside your fireplace.

The negative to this is like the soot that is accumulated on the white fireplace, It also accumulates on your clean white logs.

Above is our hand painted birch log sets, size 60”. You can see that there is soot marks that where made from turning on the fireplace for the 1st time for testing and inspection. This is going to happen no matter what.

How to achieve the look:

Instead of trying to purchase the clean non-charred look of the birch log set, go with the charred look. This will have the burn marks already made on the log to diminish the soot look.

Instead of going with a white refractory, try going with a black refractory. This will help with the sooting and you won’t have to clean it as often as you would with a white fireplace.

Go with a black stone look for your refractory, then choose a charred birch log set for the inside. To achieve the look fully, choose a masonry fireplace for the unit and have a mason specifically put your choice of tile on the inside.
